Oxidative stress is a characteristic of cell damage in various diseases since one of its primary effects is lipid peroxidation, with the consequent generation of toxic aldehydes and ketones. For their part, lipid droplets are ubiquitous and highly conserved cellular organelles responsible for storing neutral lipids. The functional relevance of lipid storage depends on the physiological state and cell type since it has been shown that the formation of lipid droplets depends on factors such as nutritional status or cellular stress. Although lipid droplets are predominantly located in adipose tissue, they are also found in many other tissues, such as nervous, cardiac, and hepatic, where they fulfill various functions. In this work, we present evidence of the relationship that has been found between oxidative stress and the function of lipid droplets.
